Michael Bond had his first Paddington Bear book published in 1958 and, buoyed by the success of “A bear called Paddington”, he went on to write a whole series.

Paddington Bear, the little bear from Darkest Peru who arrived in England after stowing away on the lifeboat of a ship, on the advice of his Aunt Lucy who had looked after him up until that point.

He met the Brown family at Paddington Station and Mr Brown immediately decided he liked the little bear who had a sign around his neck saying “Please Look After This Bear. Thank You.”. He came to live with the Brown Family in London.
